The Som Foundation was established in 2017 to fulfill the vision of a community where all members finding themselves in vulnerable situations get the support services they need before their circumstances turn critical and feelings of hopelessness and despair set in.
346 families and individuals were given the support and resources needed to achieve self sufficiency and a brighter future in 2017. Imagine how many more families we can help each year with your support.
"Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime." Together we can do both.
The Som Foundation provides funds to Central PA Family Support Services to increase their impact and ability to serve.
Central PA Family Support Services empowers individuals and families in our community to obtain a self-sufficient lifestyle through a combination of education, comprehensive case management, and emotional, behavioral and social support.
Most individuals and families receiving support from Central PA Family Support Services are funded by county agencies such as Children and Youth or Probation and Parole. There are many other community members, however, that find themselves trapped in troubling situations or recognize a need for help to prevent a critical condition before hopelessness sets in.
Funding from the Som Foundation gives Central PA Family Support Services the ability to open their doors to these vulnerable individuals that otherwise could not afford the support services they desperately need. The Som Foundation’s greatest desire is to provide Central PA Family Support Services with an unlimited capability to serve and never have to turn anyone away.
Ninety percent of those who require support services are also lacking in basic needs such as a secure home, steady food supply, etc., which effects their ability to function as a family or in society. Donations to the Som Foundation are also used to fill these basic needs, providing a fresh start and creating a sense of hope.
This renewed sense of hope coupled with support and education from Central PA Family Support Services to develop future self-sustainability produces effective and powerful results in improving life’s situations and promising a brighter future. “Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.” Together we can do both.
